Sensoft Vision does not connect to the Sensystem. Which ports must pass through the firewall?
Solution
The connection status is shown in Sensoft Vision near to the IP address on page Settings. A green checkmark as in Figure 1 indicates that the connection to the Sensystem is ok.
Steps to ensure connection between PC and Sensystem:
- Perform basic connection checks:
- Is the Sensystem turned on?
- Is the Sensystem connected via an ethernet cable to a switch or to the PC?
- Sensystem and PC need to be on the subnet. Sensystem ships with a static IP address in the 192.168.1.* range, so your PC should be in that range too. If it is not, you either have to change the IP address of the PC or of the Sensystem.
- Sensoft needs to be allowed by Windows to communicate on your network (typically the local network). Windows usually asks for this permission the first time Sensoft Vision is started (Figure 2). Allow the proposed settings (private, but not public network) and you are ok.
If these had not been allowed, Sensoft usually can measure, but for example cannot accept OPC UA connections. In this case you can change the permission for Sensoft in Windows Defender Firewall (Figure 3). There are typically four rules for Sensoft (TCP and UDP for private profile, TCP and UDP for public profile). Allow the two of the private profile, following Figure 3. - Does it appear in NI MAX (see Figure 4)? Please refer to this guide by NI how to check this and resolve connection issues. The linked guide contains the ports needed by NI MAX to go through the firewall. The relevant here are:
- MAX Hardware Identification - UDP 44515, UDP 44525, TCP 44516
- Ethernet Target Device Discover - UDP 44525
- NI Service Locator - TCP 3580
- Synchronization (NTP, SNTP) - TCP 123
- Network Shared Variables and Network Stream - TCP 2343, UDP 6000-6010, TCP 59112
Ensure that Sensoft Vision can access these ports too. If you use OPC UA allow also:
- OPC UA connection - UDP 4840, TCP 4840
- Do you use a USB-to-Ethernet adapter between your computer and the Sensystem Network box? Please contact us if you have to use such an adapter. We have reports that some models did not work with our system (e.g. crash while focussing, or crash after one hour of measurement), while other models worked well.
